The first song ever made by The March Afternoons, recorded the day Mark Linkous from died. It's a cover of the closing track of Sparklehorse's classic (and best) album "Good Morning, Spider".

This was my first attempt at playing and recording the ukulele.

The left and right side of the track are two different live performances recorded in mono (the voice and uke were recorded at the same time in to the same single microphone) and then hard panned in the mix. It's a stereo production technique I remember reading about years ago - Jason Pierce from Spiritualized wanted to make the whole of "Ladies & Gentlemen ..." like this apparently, which would have been nuts on that scale (hence why he didn't do it in the end, I guess). But I thought I'd have a go on a much much smaller scale, with a much simpler song.

The March Afternoons London, UK

The March Afternoons is the solo play-thing of Mark from Ghost Carriage Phantoms / GCP. It serves no purpose other than to allow him to experiment with new things in simple forms which he can then bring to his production work on other records, and to have some fun playing, writing and recording some songs. The aim is to do at least one new thing on every recording that he's never done before. ... more
